The brief
Big energy. One side of the bedroom.
Two energetic boys who love being outdoors, climbing, running, and finding their next adventure. But between the Texas heat, rainy days, and busy schedules, getting outside isn't always possible.
Their mom wanted to bring more movement into their everyday routine, with opportunities to climb, swing, build strength, and grow in confidence through screen-free play.
The challenge was creating a space for all that activity without giving up the bedroom itself.
We transformed one side of the room into a dedicated movement zone, with a climbing wall, overhead monkey bars, a hanging swing, and a wall ladder. The other side remained a cozy space for sleeping and reading, giving the boys room for both big adventures and quieter moments.
Design decisions
Why it's built this way.
Two sides of one room. Two very different ways to play.
- Move
Bringing the outdoors in.
A climbing wall, monkey bars, hanging swing, and wall ladder offer different ways to move, climb, hang, and challenge growing bodies. It's a dedicated outlet for active play, especially on the days when outdoor adventures aren't possible.
- Design
A bedroom with a wild side.
Rather than turning the entire bedroom into a playground, we brought the movement elements together on one side, keeping the other side for sleeping and reading. Warm wood, colorful climbing holds, and playful artwork help the two areas feel like parts of one thoughtfully designed room.
- Play
Room for a little of everything.
The padded floor brings the movement area together while leaving room for building, toys, and imaginative play. The boys can go from climbing and swinging to spreading out with their favorite toys, all within the same space.
Before & after
Same room, new world.
