  2. The Haven

A complete playroom with a custom platform

    Starting at$20,000+

Create more room for adventure with a custom-built platform and places to play above and below.

  • Typical timeline: about 4–11 weeks, from first visit to finished space.

What's included

One team, every detail.

From the first design conversation to the final installation, we manage the details that bring your Little Space to life.

  1. A design built around your child

We start in your home, getting to know your child, your space and the way your family lives. Then we design the room around them, with floor plans, 3D views and a clear vision for the space.

  2. Materials + sourcing

We select and source the materials, finishes, play elements and details that bring the design together — thoughtfully chosen for both play and your home.

  3. Custom fabrication

Custom elements are built specifically for your space, from climbing features and built-ins to platforms and other one-of-a-kind details in the design.

  4. Project coordination

We coordinate the moving pieces behind the build — materials, fabrication, scheduling and installation — so the design comes together as intended.

  5. Installation

Our team brings it all together in your home, installing and securing each element with care.

  6. Final walkthrough

Before we call it finished, we walk through the completed space with you, review the installed elements and make sure everything is ready for play.

The same team that designs your space brings it to life — so the details, materials and finished room stay true to the original vision.

Design approach

Layered Play, built into your home.

Children move between kinds of play all day long. They climb, pretend, make, retreat — often without ever leaving the same corner of the room.

We design for that.

  1. Move

    Climb. Swing. Hang.
    Balance. Jump. Crash.

Opportunities for big movement, physical challenge and the sensory input growing bodies seek.

  2. Imagine

    Pretend. Hide.
    Invent. Make believe.

Open-ended spaces that can become a fort, a stage, a hideaway — or something entirely their own.

  3. Create

    Draw. Build.
    Make. Experiment.

Places that invite children to follow an idea, make something and leave their own mark on the space.

  4. Regulate

    Read. Retreat.
    Rest. Reset.

Cozy spaces and sensory experiences that offer a change of pace when their bodies need something quieter.

More ways to play.
In the same space.

We design these layers to overlap. A platform isn't only for climbing. It can become a reading perch, a stage, a fort, a mountain, a cave or a place to retreat. A swing can invite big movement or a quiet reset.

Designed for the child we meet today, with room for who they'll grow into tomorrow.

That's Layered Play — spaces designed to do more, so children can decide what they need from them.

How it works

From our first hello to their first climb.

A thoughtful process from getting to know your child to bringing their Little Space to life.

  1. Discover

    1–5 days

We start in your home, getting to know your child, your space and the way your family lives. We talk about how they play today, what they need more of, and what you want this space to make possible.

  2. Design

    1–3 weeks

We turn what we learn into a complete vision for the space — layering movement, imagination, creativity and regulation into a design that feels at home in your home.

  3. Build

    3–8 weeks

We source materials, fabricate custom elements, coordinate the details and install the space — carrying the design through from plans to reality.

  4. Play

    Years

Then we hand the space over to its real designers: the kids. They climb it, transform it, make it theirs — and find ways to use it we never could have planned.

Safety & materials

Built to be climbed.

Every Little Space is designed for real play — climbing, swinging, jumping, crashing and everything kids will inevitably come up with next.

Built for real kids. Ready for real play.

  • Climbing holds on a birch plywood wallBaltic birch
  • The knotted rope of a cargo netCotton rope
  • Green steel rungs on a yellow playhouse wallPowder-coated steel
  • Securely installed

Climbing and structural elements are anchored into wall studs or appropriate structural supports — not simply attached to drywall.

  • Thoughtful fall zones

We plan for where children climb, jump and land, with appropriate clearances and padded landing surfaces where needed.

  • Checked before the first climb

Installed elements are inspected and tested before we hand the space over to your family.

  • Carefully curated products

From climbing holds and hardware to swings, mats and finishes, products are intentionally selected with children, durability and their intended use in mind.

Questions

Good questions.

See all questions
Will the space still work as my child grows?

Yes. Growing with your child is an intentional part of how we design.

Through Layered Play, we create movement elements that offer new challenges as children become stronger and more confident, alongside open-ended elements that aren't designed for just one kind of play. A platform might be a climbing challenge today, a fort tomorrow and a reading retreat a few years from now.

We can also design spaces in phases, leaving room to add new elements as your child grows.

Can you work with any room, or does it need to be a dedicated playroom?

Almost any space can become a Little Space. We design around nooks, walls, corridors, closets, bedrooms, bonus rooms and awkward or underused areas.

We start with the space you have and look for opportunities within it — you don't need a large or dedicated playroom.

Can you incorporate things we already have?

Absolutely. If there's furniture, storage, play equipment or something your child already loves, we can incorporate it into the design.

The goal isn't to replace everything. It's to create a space that works better as a whole.

Can you design the space in phases?

Yes. Some Little Spaces come together all at once, while others are intentionally planned in phases.

We can create the larger vision from the beginning, then add new zones or elements over time as your child grows, their interests change or your family is ready for the next phase.

Can you work with new builds or renovations?

Absolutely. We love being brought in while a new build or renovation is underway. Ideally, we join the project as the room is nearing completion, so we can design around the finishes, materials and details already taking shape in the home.

If you're working with an interior designer, we're happy to collaborate with them to create a play space that feels seamlessly integrated with the rest of your home — while still being unmistakably your child's.
