The brief

in their own words

“[What the family asked for, in a sentence or two — how their kids play, and what the room had to do.]”

[The story of the room: what we saw on the first visit, the idea we landed on together, and one detail the kids chose themselves.]

Design decisions

Why it's built this way.

Layered Play in practice: every element answers to how these two children move, imagine, create and regulate.

  • Move

The climbing wall wraps the corner

[Why: the older child climbs sideways more than up — so the route travels, and the younger one has low holds of their own.]

  • Imagine

A hideaway at the top of the slide

[Why: both kids build forts every day. The arched nook gives that instinct a permanent home.]

  • Create

    Walls the kids helped paint

[Why: the leaf murals were drawn with the children, so the room feels like theirs from day one.]
